In
the present era of rapid industrialization, it
is strongly felt that the field of Power and
Industrial Drives (PID) is gaining momentum.
Moreover, owing to continuous and intensive
research in the field of Power Semiconductor
Devices in India as well as in foreign
countries, tremendous changes and new concepts
have been evolved.Hence,
to cope with the rapid changes, it is highly
essential on the part of technocrats who are in
this field to have updated knowledge to cater
the requirements of industry in a right
direction.
The
scope of power electronic controllers have been
widened due to the developments of advanced
topologies of electrical machines. This has
contributed to further developments in the field
of Electrical Engineering. Therefore, taking all
the above mentioned developments and changes
into account a post graduate (PG) programme in
Electrical Engineering has been introduced in
the department of Electrical and Electronics
Engineering at GMR institute of Technology
since2007.
This
Post Graduate programme focuses mainly on
imparting theoretical and practical knowledge in
the field of power electronics and its
applications to electrical machines, drives,
industrial equipments, and power systems.
Special Emphasis on design, modeling and
analysis of conventional and advanced electrical
machines is also given in this
program.
Objectives
The
following are the objectives of the P.G.
Program
Training the young engineer aspirants in handling power electronics devices and
getting in - depth knowledge about their applications.
Enable the students to work in software and information technology sectors, in
connection with power electronics and electrical drives.
Enable the students to acquire sound theoretical and practical
knowledge on various areas like wind energy systems and special drives.
Enable the students to gain commendable knowledge in industrial and
automation section.
Project for Assignment Areas
The
students can work in different areas of
electrical engineering such as simulation and
control of various electrical drives, analysis
of FACTS controllers, power Quality enhancement.
Students can design and test their hardware
modules in power converters and drives lab and
also can perform analytical studies using
following software’s.
MATLAB
/ Simulink for Analysis and simulation of
various electrical systems.
PSIM Software for designing and analyzing various power system components
LabView Software for interfacing various electrical systems with
computer.
SCADA Dev Studio for data acquisition and monitoring.
Students
are motivated for publishing their works in
various National and International Conferences
and Journals
Laboratory Facilities
Power
Electronics and Drives Lab equipped with various
controllers such as DSP Controllers, DSPic
Controllers, DSP trainer Kit, Micro controllers,
all conventional machines and specials
machines.Where as Power Electronics Systems and
Simulation Lab have Softwares of MATLAB /
Simulink, PSIM, LabView, SCADA Dev Studio etc.
are extensively used by the students during
their academic schedule. Full access to internet
and web based resources like e-journals are also
available to the students.
