The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers Master of Technology in Thermal
Engineering from the academic year 2013-14 for aspiring UG students to fulfill
their desire of acquiring higher education in the area of Thermal Sciences. The
Thermal Engineering course emphasizes on real-time applications of IC Engines,
fluid flow and heat transfer in Thermal energy systems. This programme is
designed to provide a sound, in-depth knowledge, as well as training in various
aspects of testing, control and evaluation of Thermal Equipments and Systems.
Thermal Engineering plays an important role in the crucial areas of Power
Generation, Automobiles and Energy sector. The course content aims at achieving
the necessary analytical and technical competence among engineers in these
areas. This programme is customized to prepare graduates of mechanical
engineering to take up research and development activities in the said areas.
The Department is having research facilities like Bio-Diesel preparation
Set-up, VCR Engine with Data Analog System, Five Gas Analyzer and Smoke meter.
The curriculum has been designed in consultation with experts
from technical institutions of repute, research organizations and industries
keeping in pace with current technological developments and industry needs. The
programme will be dealt by qualified and motivated teachers, invited experts
from reputed institutions, research organizations and industries.
Out of four semesters, the first two cover course work
facilitating the students to learn both fundamentals and recent advances in
various core and elective subjects supported by laboratory courses which
include Computational Methods Laboratory, Thermal Engineering Laboratory. It
also includes the term paper and comprehensive viva. The third semester
includes the internship and project work and the fourth semester is earmarked
for project Work.
